We are now in the "green season" in Costa Rica. Green season describes the tropical rainy season where afternoon and evening rains are much heavier and occur more frequently. However, even if there is a lot more rain than in the "dry season" doesn't mean this isn't a beautiful time of year to be visiting Costa Rica.
Many people consider this becoming their favorite season. The tropical forests are resplendent with new and lush green growth, enticing the three hundred-some varieties of hummingbirds in Costa Rica to dart from plant to plant drinking freshly mixed nectar during and after rain. The rain also brings cooler temperatures than during the drier months of December through March.
There are also lots of outdoor activities, some of which are actually more enjoyable during this time of year. Rivers run high and fast, making for exciting white water rafting. The rainforest takes on a more mystical appearance and with waterfalls at their fullest, you can enjoy beautiful day hiking to many destinations. In most parts of Costa Rica "green season" rainfall happens around the same time each day, allowing you to plan your activities accordingly.
Another significant advantage is that hotels and other tour industry service providers often have very attractive "green season" rates which are much lower than other times of the year and popular restaurants and attractions tend to be less crowded.
The beauty and tranquility of the green season is just one more reason Costa Rica is one of the happiest places on earth!
