While there is never a hard time to be in Costa Rica, we are now well into what is considered to be the high season which is defined as January through April. These months coincide with some of the coldest, snowiest months in North America making a tropical destination a perfect break.

There are many options to complete your days in the high season. The beaches of the Southern Zone of Costa Rica are a favorite place to walk, swim, surf or sit in the shade of a palm tree and read or just relax. Playa Tortuga, Playa Ventanas, Playa Ballena, Playa Pinuella, Playa Chaman, and Playa Uvita are a few of the beaches within a few minutes drive from Ojochal.

There are a number of guided tours around Ojochal including: tours of the Sierpe River where you are almost guaranteed amazing wildlife sightings, river and ocean kayaking, boat excursions for snorkeling or diving, exciting zip line experiences, horseback riding on the beach or to beautiful waterfalls, surfing lessons, stand up paddle boarding, hiking on jungle trails or ATV tours.

High season does tend to be busy. If there are activities that you have your heart set on it is advisable to make reservations well in advance in order to avoid being disappointed. For planning and booking, there is a local magazine concentrating on activities, accommodations and restaurants, www.ballenatales.com, where you can find detailed listings of activities and contact information.
